I’m a journalist, editor and content strategist with over a decade of experience covering law, security and public policy.
I have produced and promoted award-winning, internationally recognized work. As the deputy director of content at InSight Crime, I oversaw and directly edited coverage of organized crime in Latin America and the Caribbean that won the global Ortega y Gasset journalism prize, Colombia’s Simón Bolívar National Journalism Prize, and an award from the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes at Columbia Journalism School for outstanding reporting in the Americas.
I elevated InSight Crime’s reputation for high-quality journalism, leading to citations in virtually every major regional and global media outlet, including the New York Times, the BBC, CNN, Univision, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, El País, O Globo, El Tiempo, El Universal and Al Jazeera. I personally appeared frequently as an expert in that coverage, both in print and on air.
I am knowledgeable about multi-platform content and impact strategies as well as brand development. My editorial direction kept InSight Crime ahead of its competitors in reach and impact, using innovative newsletters and social media content, including videos and live events that I often presented and participated in.
Prior to InSight Crime, I worked for several years as a reporter for the legal news service Law360. I advanced from being a general assignment reporter to a senior reporter covering employment law and immigration before returning to InSight Crime, where I had previously worked as a senior editor and writer.
I earned a degree in journalism and international studies from the University of Miami in Florida and a master’s degree in U.S. foreign policy and national security from American University in Washington, D.C., where I also completed an intercultural communication writing fellowship. I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese.
